Photo by gfootsBlurb.com has released the 2.0 version of BookSmart, the software used to create this book and many others…
The main upgrade is the freedom of layout, at last. Now, you can edit any page, arranging pictures and text box with no limits. Also, if you are a experienced InDesign user, you may use your favourite tool and upload a PDF to Blurb. Or… if you use ANY other design tool to create your books, the only thing you must be aware is sizes and margins, and create a PDF. Blurb offers templates for InDesign software and general guidelines for any other tool you wanna use.
Now, freedom is the main word of Blurb publishing site. Now, is my very fisrt option to build this book!

The copyright issues are annoying (ever). Thus, Fair Use will be used and forced at maximum… I don’t wanna hurt the Blade Runner Partnership and viceversa (I hope!).
My idea about prop location in the movie could be as simple as include a capture of the frame where prop appears, but… I don’t wanna publish a clear snapshot of the movie.
Another approach will be include only a cropped image, or reduced one or so…
Finally, I have another one. Process the snap as it was a cartoon or so. And only show the real thing in the precise location of each prop, like this:
Tell me what do you think please… I love the look and feel!
(this is a reduced image, real one will be at 300dpi or similar – click to zoom)

If you want contribute with pictures, take note of this requirements:
Your own snapshots:
Color or B/N. The book is planned in B/N for now. But color pictures are desired. Just in case…
300 dpi. Printing will be made at maximum quality available and/or possible. If you are using adigital camera, use the finest quality possible, in JPEG format. If your camera supports TIFF format, use it. If you camera support RAW format, use it! I could process any RAW format supported by Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Camera RAW plugin.
If you can, take a picture with neutral background of your props. Side by side, from upper, etc. Use a white background or a “chroma” color, like blue or green. This will be useful to mask the object just in case.
Signed permission for free use of them. A scanned form or letter will be enough to start working with your pictures. A printed permission will be desirable.
Other pictures:
- If you have found some pictures surfing the net, please, supply the original link. I’ll ask for permissions when possible.
- If you capture a snapshot from the movie, please, take note of time and give me the chance to make the same capture from hi-def version, like Final Cut in HD DVD o BluRay. If snap is from Workprint or Director’s Cut, please note this. Also, in this case the “Fair Use” will be applied, and picture cropped and edited to mark the prop location.
- Any other pictures, drop me a line to examine them case by case.
You could send pictures here, attached to posts. I’ll open an FTP account for ytou if size is too large for this. Simply ask for it.

You can supply text in any PC available format, but ASCII text is desirable. Unformatted.
But, if you have docs in PDF format, will be acceptable too. Word format, etc.
Copyright issues applies like pictures. If the text is from other source, indicate it, link, etc. to ask for permissions. If you are the owner, please fill a permission form and send me it in digital form, and then in printed form too. Give me free permission to use it.
Texts must be in English. Eventually, these ones will be translated if necessary.
All owners will be credited in the book, of course.
